2018 Hyundai Sonata vs 2018 Ford Fusion near Catonsville, MD

In 2018, the Hyundai Sonata has added some major upgrades to its suspension and steering for an improved driving experience. On top of this, the Sonata has also added a wide range of safety features and driving aids, as well as improved their fuel economy by dropping a few pounds overall. The Ford Fusion, however, has remained the same for 2018 with no new features or updates.

2018 Hyundai Sonata Power & Handling

The three engines of the Sonata are all matched with an all-new eight-speed automatic transmission and come with front-wheel drive. Each engine provides a wonderful ride with smooth transitions. The regular engines have a high fuel economy of 41 miles per gallon and if you want even better gas mileage, the hybrid engine can rocket you up to a high of 53 miles per gallon.

2018 Ford Fusion Power & Handling

All six of the Ford Fusion engines are matched to a six-speed automatic transmission. Even with six choices of engine to choose from, the Fusion still struggles to find a good fit for fast/smoother shifting. For the regular engine, the highest fuel economy rating is 23 miles per gallon in the city and 34 miles per gallon on the highway. When you switch to the hybrid engine, the fuel economy rises to 43 miles per gallon in the city and 41 miles per gallon on the highway.

2018 Hyundai Sonata Features & Design

Seven trim levels are available to the Sonata. The base comes with all the necessary basics and each trim builds off this to add luxury, comfort, style, and safety. An all-new SEL trim even comes with a hands-free smart trunk, heated front seats, keyless ignition, and heated side mirrors. To top it off, the Limited 2.0T comes with all of the previous trims' features, as well as the contents of every package offered!

2018 Ford Fusion Features & Design

While the Ford Fusion does have a very practical base trim that comes with all the basic features you would expect to find on a starter trim, the following trims add little to improve the luxury or make them worth the upgrade. In order to add comfort, luxury, safety, and style you would need to choose a higher level trim and then add packages for what you want/need.

Overall the Sonata stands far above the Fusion. With increased fuel economy, stronger driving capability, and more opportunities for the features you want/need, the Sonata is the clear winner.
