2018 Hyundai Sonata vs 2018 Toyota Camry near Catonsville, MD

The 2018 Toyota Camry went under a complete redesign with a longer wheelbase, revised suspension geometry, a sleeker style, and the addition of two new styles for certain trims. The 2018 Hyundai Sonata also went under some major renovations with upgrades to its suspension and steering, as well as adding multiple standard safety features such as rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot detection, and lane change assist. The headlights have been switched to LED and the optional panoramic sunroof has been made smaller to improve the fuel economy by decreasing its overall weight.

2018 Hyundai Sonata Power & Handling

The Sonata offers three engine choices, all front-wheel drive with a new eight-speed automatic. The base engine is a 2.5-liter inline-4 with 203 horsepower and 41 miles per gallon fuel economy. The next engine option is a 3.5-liter 301 horsepower with 33 miles per gallon fuel economy. Finally, there is the 2.5-liter inline-4 gasoline-electric hybrid engine, which offers 208 horsepower and a fuel economy of 53 miles per gallon.

2018 Toyota Camry Power & Handling

The Camry also offers three engines to choose from with the base being a 2.4-liter inline-4 with 185 horsepower and a fuel economy of 36 miles per gallon. The next option is a 2-liter turbocharged inline-4 with 245 horsepower and a 32 miles per gallon fuel economy. The last option is a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-4 with 178 horsepower and comes standard with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic instead of the 8-speed automatic.

2018 Hyundai Sonata Features & Design

The Sonata offers 7 trim levels starting with the SE which offers power windows and door locks, cruise control, a rearview camera, a 7-inch touchscreen, and can easily be upgraded to the electric engine with the Eco model. The brand new SEL trim offers keyless ignition, a hands-free smart trunk, heated side mirrors, and a heated front seat. At the very top of the list, you have the Limited 2.0T which comes standard with not only everything that is on the other trims but also has everything offered by the packages and standalone features.

2018 Toyota Camry Features & Design

The Camry has 5 trim options and always includes the Toyota Safety Sense which includes a frontal pre-collision system with steering assistance, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. The base L trim offers a rearview camera, a height-adjustable driver seat, keyless entry, and Bluetooth. At the very top level, you have the XLE and the XSE trims, which simply add on to the LE and the SE with dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless ignition, and a smartphone wireless charging pad.

The Camry is a great safety vehicle, but it lacks in fuel economy and its trims are pretty limited. The Sonata offers everything that's on the table with its top trim and even has a fuel economy reaching up to 53 miles per gallon! If you're looking for a car that has it all, the Sonata has a much wider range of choices.
