Power Options for the 2019 Veloster

Power Options for the 2019 Veloster

While retaining the unique two-plus-one asymmetrical door body style and impressive looks, Hyundai gave the Veloster a total upgrade for the 2019 model year! Hyundai introduced the brand new 2019 Veloster model at the North American International Auto Show in January. This unique car received a complete upgrade from top to bottom including an interior and exterior redesign, enhanced connectivity and infotainment features, and powertrain enhancements and options. Hyundai began production of the Veloster in March of this year in Ulsan, Korea. You can expect to find the Veloster on the American market in the second-quarter of 2018.

What kind of powertrain enhancements were made for the 2019 model year?

  • The first engine option is the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that utilizes the Atkinson-cycle to lower emissions and offer superior efficiency. This engine creates 132 pound-feet of torque at an estimates 4,500 rpm and 147 horsepower and an estimated 6,200 rpm. Other advanced features that make this engine so smooth and efficient include innovative anti-friction coatings, variable induction, electronic throttle control, and Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing. There are three selectable driving modes for this engine including Smart, Sport, and Normal. This engine can be matched with a six-speed electronically controlled automatic or six-speed manual transmission.
  • The second option is a Gamma 1.6-liter turbocharged, direct-injection four-cylinder engine. This engine can create 195 pound-feet of torque from an estimated 1,500 to 4,500 rpm and 201 horsepower at an estimated 6,000 rpm. Turbo models produce 201 hp with regular fuel offering a best-in-class output of 125.6 hp per liter. This engine comes equipped with an over-boost function that can raise peak torque delivery to 202 pound-feet with maximum acceleration. This engine can be matched with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission or a six-speed manual both of which were designed by Hyundai. With the seven-speed transmission, the Veloster Turbo gains SHIFTRONIC transmission gear control and steering wheel mounted paddle shifters. There are three driving modes for this engine as well: Smart, Sport, and Normal.
  • Transmission options include a six-speed manual, six-speed electronically controlled automatic, and a seven-speed dual clutch.
  • The Seven-Speed EcoShift Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) offers all the perks of a manual transmission, like low fuel burning, and pairs them with all the benefits of automatic transmissions, like ease and comfort. The DCT also offers uninterrupted torque transfer when shifting and direct connection for high efficiency. This transmission also offers Hyundai's hill start assist control so that you won't roll back on steep hills.
Torque Vectoring Control
  • Each 2019 Veloster model offers Torque Vectoring Control or TVC. This is an active cornering feature that utilizes powertrain control systems and capabilities from the electronic stability control system to allow the Veloster to enhance cornering during more zealous driving! TVC utilizes electronic stability control algorithms and wheel-speed sensors to apply the specific braking power to the inside front wheel during enthusiastic cornering.
The 2019 Veloster is one good looking car that offers some really great powertrain options! Are you interested in learning more about this vehicle?
